MOTHERS DAY IN IRELAND

"In Ireland, we celebrate our mothers day on Sunday the 14th of March this year, a 'mothering Sunday' - on the 4th Sunday of Lent. Why this day? Well in times gone by, the day was put forward by the Church to provide a break during the Lenten season - permitting those giving up things for Lent to celebrate.

Now though, it's focus is very much on being able to bring family together to celebrate, remember and rejoice in their mothers. Now while every household might celebrate it differently, there are a few traditions which still might be good today.

From the mother getting to stay in bed, and get breakfast in bed. Being gifted a wonderful bouquet of flowers and of course - something special to commemorate the day.

With 2021, like 2020 being so different and trying, it's important we take the time out to be thankful and grateful to those in our lives. Mother's Day gives us just such an occasion to do so"
